phew!

The Fresh Air interview went well and provided our background check come back clean and the references check out ok (I'm sure they will) we should have a child placed with us this summer! Thank you for all the prayers, kind words and support! We feel so fortunate to be in a place where this might be a possibility and hopefully be able to impact a life in a positive way!

  1. As a kid, I always wanted my parents to take on a Fresh Air child but they wouldn't. I thought it would be great fun to introduce an inner city kid to farms, fields and forests.
You will provide such a cool place for a child. How long do they come for? What a great opportunity for your kids too.

  2. Thank yo doglady, this is a long time coming for me and I'm THRILLED that it's almost here! Because we're new to the program we're able to choose either one or two weeks, we've chosen the two week option. If everything else works out on both parties next year we could choose to have them for quite a bit longer. Farm, fields and forest are just part of what they'll be introduced here, it'll also be the quiet, sometimes it's so quiet you have to make a noise to make sure your ears are still working. Depending in the week they arrive I'm hopeful to introduce them to fireflies and dark country skies with twinkling stars and veggies straight out of the ground and campfires. I'm hoping to show them that not every place on earth is dangerous to be outside at night and there are places where gunfire is not common (except during hunting season)and drive-by shooting don't happen all the time. I'm hoping to show them the simple joys of childhood that my kids enjoy without thought, peace, safety, and serenity. Dark, quiet, fireflies, campfires and fresh air... We were told that the bugs might bother them as they don't have mosquitoes in NYC or blackflies, and unfortunately it seem this year we have a bumper crop!

  3. You are right, most of these kids have never experienced the night sky or country silence. They have never known the freedom of going outdoors and not being on guard. What a lucky child who will be with you.

  5. We had Fresh Air Kids when I was growing up. I don't remember a lot about it though. The last time we had one I was only about 8 years old. Some bad stuff but a lot of good too. If you ever want to hear some stories, let me know. ;-) The last child my parents took in was a young girl about the same age as my younger sister (six if I remember right). That was our best one ever.

So what's the view from your world about that? I'd enjoy hearing it.
