  2. My poults are a month old and growing quite nicely. I think turkeys are fun.

  4. The only problem with turkeys is getting them past the most vulnerable stage. The old saying that if there is a way to kill yourself a turkey will find it is so true.

  5. Well, last year was the first year we raised them and I only lost one. I felt pretty good about that - not having lost more I mean, not that I lost one. I have no idea what happened, about 2 1/2 - 3 months into it, so a fairly decent sized turkey just up and croaked. Kind of frustrating, but was glad to have had an extra as insurance just in case. ;-)

  6. I had 4 doing well until a couple of hot days. They got loose on separate days and I asked on of my German Shepherds to catch the first one but three dogs chased and it died of heat exhaustion. The last hot day of the summer another got loose but I didn't know it until the dogs were in hot pursuit. I almost grabbed it but it panicked and the chase was on again. Same result. Turkey died in my hands. The last two made it to Jason's. This year I got 15 poults and within 3 hours of their arrival 10 had some how gotten totally soaked in water and died. The five were doing great until the brooder bulb blew out and I didn't know it for hours. I now have 4 who seem to be doing very well in spite of me. Next year will be try number 3 and that may be the charm.

  7. Oh my goodness! I'm sorry to hear that, that's so sad.

So what's the view from your world about that? I'd enjoy hearing it.
